When Baghdad fell in early 2003, Eason Jordan, as CNN's news chief, admitted that he had held back information about murder, torture, assassinations, and more inside Saddam Hussein's Iraq -- ostensibly to protect journalists from retribution, but also to ensure that his network would have continued "access" to the core of the regime.

It must have been agonizing for a news hound like Jordan to have so many great stories, yet be unable to run with any of them. But every dog has his day, and Jordan finally got one story CNN could scoop everyone else on:

CNN executive resigns after controversial remarks
Saturday, February 12, 2005

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- CNN chief news executive Eason Jordan resigned Friday, saying the controversy over his remarks about the deaths of journalists in Iraq threatened to tarnish the network he helped build.

Jordan conceded that his remarks at the January 27 World Economic Forum were "not as clear as they should have been." Several participants at the event said Jordan told the audience U.S. forces had deliberately targeted journalists -- a charge he denied.
Consensus among bloggers who have been closely following the story is that:

(1) whatever Jordan said must have been unmistakably damning, leading him to pre-emptively resign before the still-unreleased tapes of his Davos comments are leaked to the press, and

(2) his clumsy, Kerryesque attempts to spin and nuance his statements away only made matters worse.

Ironically, even commenting on his own resignation, Jordan couldn't get his facts straight: He's already tarnished CNN.

What about the fake reporter with the fake name 'Jeff Gannon' who just resigned his job with a GOP propagand website/news service called Talon News? Leftie bloggers were all over him, it's quite a big news story, except if you get your new from Fox who have refused to mention anything about it.

I woulnd't be surprised if soldiers intentionally shot a few warning rounds at joulnalists in Iraq, hell it's a war zone... what is Political Correctness swinging the other way now? Are Republicans now out on a witch hunt to silence those that don't share their views?... they were screaming against PC all though the 90's, now that their in charge looks like they like being PC.

Man you're wrong, Republicans aren't on a witch hunt. The internet is the wild west of free information, and Fox News can ignore a story, they know the truth is out there, they just hope you only get your news from one source, their's. Increasingly people are apathetic, to the deluge of information, or the ones like G.B. who want to make a differance, get their information from all over. Not a bad thing.

For all my disagreement with somethings conservative, The Republicans know the information is all a Google search away. It's *presentation* that they are focused on. No conspiracies going on, no witch hunts, more people in the U.S. lean conservative right now, because the final content of the presentation appealed to them. It's a fact, and Fox spinning something or leaving a story untold will not effect that. The policies wash in the end.

There's white noise of pundits, editorials, blogs and trolls. All have effect on opinion, but policy, what the government does is the ultimate decider. More people found something they liked with the Republicans for now. Four years will be enough to see if the majority is right.
