What's worse than a 9-11 supporter?

A lying 9-11 supporter.

Sixties relic and University of Colorado ethnic studies professor Ward Churchill, stung by criticism of his charming essay attempting to justify the terrorist attacks of September 11, is in full CYA mode:

Denying that he is a "defender" of the September 11 attacks, Churchill said, he had simply been "pointing out that if U.S. foreign policy results in massive death and destruction abroad, we cannot feign innocence when some of that destruction is returned."

"I have never said that people 'should' engage in armed attacks on the United States, but that such attacks are a natural and unavoidable consequence of unlawful U.S. policy."
The man is flat-out lying:

One of the things I’ve suggested is that it may be that more 9/11s are necessary.

...I don’t want other people in charge of the apparatus of the state as the outcome of a socially transformative process that replicates oppression. I want the state gone: transform the situation to U.S. out of North America. U.S. off the planet. Out of existence altogether.
Close enough for me.

By the way, Ward, nice photo. What's the gun for?

FOLLOW-UP:
More of Ward Churchill's greatest hits:
When I started out it was "U.S. out of Vietnam," and then that was changed and it became "U.S. out of Indochina," and then it became "U.S. out of Southern Africa," and it was "U.S. out of the Caribbean and Central America," and then it became "U.S. out of the Persian Gulf."

I agreed with every one of those, but ultimately there's only one way that any of them will be possible and that is: US out of North America, U.S. off the planet, and take Canada with you when you go!

...That said, we are going right to the nerve centre of what makes the thing function and it will not stop functioning painlessly; it will resist.

There is not a petition campaign that you can construct that is going to cause the power and the status quo to dissipate. There is not a legal action that you can take; you can't go into the court of the conqueror and have the conqueror announce the conquest to be illegitimate and to be repealed; you cannot vote in an alternative, you cannot hold a prayer vigil, you cannot burn the right scented candle at the prayer vigil, you cannot have the right folk song, you cannot have the right fashion statement, you cannot adopt a different diet, build a better bike path.

You have to say it squarely: the fact that this power, this force, this entity, this monstrosity called the State maintains itself by physical force, and can be countered only in terms that it itself dictates and therefore understands. That's a deep breath time; that's a real deep breath time.

Great stuff. And your query about Ward and his gun is spot on; I own guns back home, but I don't feel a need to pose with them. But then Ward's trying for the Che chic, isn't he? Given the "Satya" mag cover, I wonder whether it will be Ward who will inform us that "Social justice is delivered through the barrel of a gun." And thanks for the bit on the French w(h)ine industry; I read they're dumping it in order to prop up prices--good luck: the Yanks, Australians, and others are still pouring into the market.

This story is rapidly unfolding. Not only was his speaking engagement cancelled, he stepped down from his Department Chair poition. I only hope the administration has the "cajones" to fire this "monster" who has tenure. I believe in free speech - but don't believe this person has any right to poison young minds at a State University!

Is prof under fire
really an Indian?
Churchill kicked out of AIM 12 years ago as 'treacherous,' 'masquerading' white man

"Great stuff. And your query about Ward and his gun is spot on; I own guns back home, but I don't feel a need to pose with them." ------

Hey bud, maybe if there weren't any rightwingers and nonselfconfessed supremacists who think very shallowly of their nevertheless decisive edge lending gadget arrays as 'nifty', 'handy', 'good' to have, around, then maybe, just maybe people like Ward wouldn't be provoked into defending themselves and or trying to get back what all that welldeserved genius that takes away grudgelessly, keeps away remorselessly and manages to be offended when in any fashion at all called to account. If the Wardies of the world ever get to disarm you all, and you have learned to love more equitable work whereby large swathes of the human race are no longer falling into the crack categories of 'execrable' (just read at the blog that brought me here) but appreciated and appreciating clientele, we will be able to destroy the last weapons that permit the standoffish, remote, delegate, absentee and worse ways of making and dealing with enemies. Don't keep that macho pace brother, try figure out what macho peace might look like and remember, don't let the means spoil the ends, the postponement of gratification don't mean drudgery ever, it means rising anticipation. Your brother Piet Eichmann.
