Tokyo's Ueno Zoo decided to pull an April Fools' prank, annoucing that a giant new species of penguin would be unveiled on April 1.
It turned out to be a guy in a penguin suit:
"A great discovery!" blared the special news release by the Ueno Zoo, saying the Tonosama (Lord) Penguin was 165 centimeters (five feet, six inches) tall and weighed 80 kilograms (176 pounds).AFP doesn't report on the human visitors' reaction. In America, people probably would have demanded refunds, if not actually filed lawsuits.
As the cameras rolled, the real penguins rose their beaks and gazed up at the purported Lord but then walked away disinterested when he took off his penguin face to reveal himself to be zoo director Teruyuki Komiya.

I'm not personally familiar with the Ueno Zoo, but the story on Yahoo seemed to say that this was an annual event: every April Fool's Day, some zoo employee dresses up as an animal.
I might have just misread the photo caption, though...

The caption does say there is an annual event to display a human being in the zoo, but whether people knew that this supposed new species of penguin would be the human in question is debatable. Apparently everyone got the joke, though.

Either way that's a great picture.
